Hi David,
Streaming the mp3's is the best method because if the students try and
save the file, they will really only be saving the .m3u file (which is
essentially a path to the actual .mp3), and I know from testing
Divace that it will play streamed mp3's - granted we are using a unix
fileserver which allows us control over things like
streaming and password protecting directories containing mp3's.
I don't know how this is done under W2K, but it must be possible.
There are however programs out there like supermp3recorder (which
notably can act as a two track recorder) that
capture and save streams, so there is no full proof way to prevent it
from being copied.

Here at Loyola our Language Labs are running DIVACE software with content
delivered from a Windows 2000 server. My question for anyone with a
similar setup: how have you managed to prevent tech saavy students from
copying the master MP3s off the server and
e-mailing them to themselves?
