------------------
Dear LLTI;

I'm looking into this issue again.

(I was a co-author of Spanish Partner if you're new to the list.)

I'm going to talk to McGraw-Hill & also to the people in Computer Science here.

In the meantime, here is Microsoft's answer:

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - Q231813
                                 Some MS-DOS-Based Games Are Not
                                 Supported in Windows 2000

The information in this article applies to:

                                      Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
                                      Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
                                      Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

                                 Symptoms

                                  MS-DOS-based game programs may run
slower, run with impaired
functionality, or not run at all on your
Windows 2000-based
                                  computer.

                                 Cause

This issue can occur because some
MS-DOS-based game programs
may require or request direct use of
hardware resources, but
Windows 2000 does not permit programs to
use hardware directly.

                                 Resolution

To resolve this issue, contact the vendor
of your MS-DOS-based
game program to inquire about the
availability of a fix for this issue.

To work around this issue, create and use
an MS-DOS boot disk for
games installed on a FAT16 file system
hard disk partition. For
information about how to create and use
an MS-DOS boot disk,
contact the vendor of your MS-DOS-based
game program.

                                 Status

                                  This behavior is by design.
