Dear Colleagues,

It is with particular pleasure that I announce the publication of the Summer
2002 volume of the CALICO Review
(http://astro.temple.edu/~lba13/CALICO/index.htm).
Those of you who are particularly observant will note a slight change in the
URL for the CALICO Review. By way of explanation, I am happy to announce the
appointment of Lee Abraham as the new Assistant Software Review Editor who,
among other duties, is assuming responsibility for maintaining the CALICO
Review website. Do please remember to point your CALICO Review bookmark to
the new URL.

As for the present volume, it continues the tradition of evaluating software
for a range of languages, commonly taught as well as LCTL. Teachers of
Arabic will appreciate Mohammad Alhawary's assessment of the EMSA Companion
for beginning and intermediate level learners. Likewise, Italian instructors
looking for intermediate/advanced level software will definitely want to
read Francesco Scordato's review of the highly rated C'eravamo tanto amati
DVD. Linda Jones was also very pleased to discover Musical Spanish, a
program which exploits popular song to teach beginner/intermediate level
Spanish. Two other programs for beginning level students round out the
volume. French Bit By Bit, reviewed by Martine Peters, offers a
comprehensive grammar review as does the web-based LearnPlus-Deutsch 1,
reviewed by Michael Shaughnessy.
