I'm on the road and haven't been reading the list carefully.  But I just 
wanted to throw out that I just got a copy of OS Jaguar (v. 10.2) and it 
does seem to include fonts for Devanagari among others.  I haven't had time 
for my Nepali student to test it out yet, but it might be just what you are 
looking for.
