>Subject: Hindi fonts in Mac OS 9 and X
I have a Hindi professor who upgraded from Mac OS 9 to OS X a few months
ago. We didn't think he would have any options for Hindi input in OS X,
since they still haven't released support for Hindi. However, the Hindi
font he used in OS 9 with Microsoft Word 2001, Jaisalmer, carried over
magically to OS X and he was able to use it with Microsoft Word X. This
worked for months, but now he has just gotten back from a monthlong
absence, and the font no longer shows up in OS X.
The ONLY thing that I can think of that might have changed the font setup
is that I did turn the computer on once while he was away, and there were
software updates. I installed them, and I think the Asian language support
update might have been in there (Chinese and Korean), because now there are
Chinese and Korean fonts and he doesn't remember seeing those before. I
suppose it's possible that these bumped out the Hindi font somehow.
I am rather at a loss as to what to try, though, since this really never
should have worked in the first place. Has anyone else experienced this
font crossover between OS 9 and OS X?
