Hello Mike and fellow LLTIers:

That's a very good question, and the first thing we tried out after buying a multiregion, macrovision-free player.  Works like a charm.  However, depending on the DVD (and its copyright protection, if any) the quality of the VHS tape really depends on Macrovison free playback.  If you are at the point of looking for a player, I can recommend the Malata N960 from avdeals.com.
