Louise:

Try adjusting the sampling rate on the sound card. Go to Settings,
Multimedia, Sound, etc.  If that does not solve it try another sound card. If
that does not work, the CD/DVD player needs adjustment or replacement. Media
Players play the audio and video files as delivered from the sound card,
video /graphics card and CD/DVD player.
