POSITION AVAILABLE

Title: Assistant Education Specialist (Technology and Spanish
Language Learning)
{position title is under review and may be changed}

Position: 100%, 12 months, Academic Professional (P/A) Position

Start Date: July 1, 2002. Appointment is for one year with renewal
contingent on satisfactory performance and funding.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.

Description:

* Serve as liaison to the Department of Spanish and Portuguese
Studies, providing information on Language Center services and
working with individual language program staff to determine how the
LC can best serve their needs.
* Manage and support web-based courses of the department.
* Assist the Language Center in fulfillment of its mission to provide
technological support to language teachers.
* Teach two Spanish language courses per year.
* Organize and conduct workshops and ongoing colloquia on the use of
technology in language teaching.
* Assist in the development and implementation of instructional
materials for teachers and students using technology in the teaching
and learning of a second language.
* Collect, evaluate and disseminate information on technology
resources (video, software, Internet, etc.) for second-language
teaching and learning.

Essential Qualifications:

* Master's degree or foreign equivalent or ABD in Spanish,
second-language education, or related discipline
* Proficiency in Spanish
* A minimum of two years second-language teaching experience
* Prior experience with technology in language teaching
* Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to work
with faculty, staff, and students in Spanish and Portuguese

Desired Qualifications:

* Prior experience with teacher development in the area of technology
and second-language learning
* Prior experience in higher-education administration
* Prior experience in managing web-based course systems, e.g., WebCT or Mallard
