Ed,

Here at BU the graduation ceremony is projected on a huge screen
at the field where Commencement takes place. If I remember right,
they started this practice when Mitterand was the Commencement
speaker back in 1994 or 95. It is a regular fixture now.

If you want to find out more, you should start with the univ-wide
Media Services Group. 617 353-3227 -- they may direct you to the
Tech Operations folks, or they may defer to another wing of their
extensive offices. Ask this question for best results:

          Who's in charge of the big screen broadcast
          at Nickerson Field, used for Commencement?

bpPS The screen IS used outdoors, but as I recall it is shaded a bit
by a large awning. Anyhow, it looked great when I graduated. The
second time.
