------------------
All,

Yesterday, I had a demo of the next version of WebCT: Colbalt. It has been
completely re-designed to lower the learning curve and they claim anybody
can learn to use it in half a day. This is one of the first negatives I
hear people mention when comparing Blackboard and WebCT.

Now the bad news. It is _very_ expensive. For an institution of 4000 FTE,
a three year commitment will cost $70,000 per year. If you commit for five
years it is only $60,000 per year. Prices are a little lower for schools
with 2500 or fewer FTE. I didn't even ask about large insitiutions.
