CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP), 2002-2003
Administered by the American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS
A Program of the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
APPLICATION DUE DATE: 17:00, December 7, 2001
The JFDP is a non-degree, professional development program intended to provide opportunities for junior university faculty from the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Russian Federation, with great potential as scholars and instructors in their disciplines to:
--develop new courses and implement curriculum reform at their home institutions;
--cultivate teaching skills and techniques derived from exposure to U.S. educational methods;
--expand the information base in their fields of study, and;
--become a vehicle for on-going contact and exchange between home and host institutions.
The competition is open to citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The faculty must currently teach at a higher educational institution in their home country (with the exception of those applying in the fields of Arts Management and Library and Archival Science), have a mastery of the English language, and possess a kandidatskaia or two years of teaching experience in an institution of higher education. Applicants in the fields of Arts Management and Library and Archival Science need a university degree and two years of work experience in that field.
For the 2002-03 academic year, JFDP Fellows will undertake a nine-month, non-degree program. Program activities include observing courses, developing curricula, gathering resource materials, attending conferences, collaborating with U.S. colleagues, giving presentations and possibly teaching. After the academic year, Fellows complete a two-month summer practicum. Fellows are placed at U.S. host institutions that have facilities and faculty appropriate for their field of study. JFDP Fellows receive round-trip international and domestic transportation, medical insurance, monthly stipends, and a professional development fund. Since the JFDP is a non-degree program, Fellows are not required or permitted to receive transcripts, degrees, grades or credit.
