Technical Coordinator for Foreign Language Computing

The Technical Coordinator is responsible for the computing environment
in the Department of Asian & African Languages and Literature (AALL) and
the Language Laboratories.  Responsibilities include oversight of
current computer usage, advising on potential uses and functionalities,
research and planning to meet projected technical infrastructure needs,
as well as overall responsibility for the functionality of network
configurations, security, printing, hardware and software, including
specialized language computing applications and features.  The Technical
Coordinator works with the individuals in AALL to provide the
infrastructure, the technical support and the advice to enable them to
take advantage of computers in their teaching, administrative and
research activities.  The Technical Coordinator reports to the Director
of Foreign Language Technology Services on priority and planning issues
and to the Manager of Operations, A&S Computing on technical issues.

Specific responsibilities include:

- Mac & PC installation, configuration and troubleshooting
- Support of multi-lingual and multi-media configurations
- NIC installation, configuration and troubleshooting
- Application installation and configuration
- Printer installation and maintenance
- Advice on current and future computer uses
- Research on hardware and software
- Recommendations on hardware and software
- Budget and long range planning and advice
- User education
- Printed and on-line documentation
- Liaison to colleagues in Arts and Sciences and the University for
other IT services

Education:  B.A. or B.S.

Minimum Experience:  One year's experience working in an IT support
environment

Special Requirements: Strong customer service, communications and
organizational skills.  Ability to work both independently and as part
of a team, with attention to detail and deadlines. Ability to work
closely and effectively with a diverse clientele that has varying levels
of technical proficiency.  Prior support experience in a multilingual
computing environment and prior experience in an instructional computing
lab preferred.
