------------------
Although not specifically intended for "beginning" students (no mention was
in the original post of the target audience), there is a CD called
Pronunciacio'n y fonética by Patricia V Lunn of Michigan State. It is
distributed by Instructional Media Center, Marketing Div., MSU, P. O. Box
710, East Lansing MI 48826-0710. (ph 517-353-9229) This came out in 1999
and according to the description:

"This cross-platform multimedia program consists of interactive lessons
that can be used by Spanish teachers to learn how to teach pronunciatin or
by advanced students working on their own.

Units progress toward an overview of dialectology in which phonetic
concepts are used to describe the major modalities of Spanish. . . ."

Although it sounds a bit formidable, there is basic Spanish text, ear
training exercises, oral practice, and some hidden goodies for more
advanced learners. The instructions indicate that NO knowledge of
linguistics is necessary in order to utilize and benefit from the lessons.

We have used some segments both with majors and non-majors and have had a
generally positive experience.

Warm regards,

Dennis Magnuson
