Dear Colleagues:

Bates College Information and Library Services seeks applications and
nominations for Foreign Language Technology Manager.  The Foreign
Language Technology Manager collaborates with faculty and students in
the Classical/Romance and German/Russian/East Asian Languages and
Literatures departments on the evaluation and adoption of digital
technologies for teaching and research.  Reporting to the Director of
Academic Technology Services, the position also manages the Language
Resource Center.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelors degree and working knowledge of one
or more foreign languages; working knowledge of multimedia development
tools and experience with foreign language technology applications;
exceptional organization and communication skills along with strong
writing and documentation skills; ability to work independently and
flexibly in a collaborative environment; teaching experience in
technology or language acquisition is desirable.

Complete Job Description:

Position Title:  Foreign Language Technology Manager
Department:  Information and Library Services
Exemption Status: Salaried/Exempt
Reports to:  Director of Academic Technology Services

Summary and Scope of Position

Supports the foreign language faculty in the integration of curriculum
and technology; supports other members of the faculty with similar
needs. Manages and oversees the Language Resource Center and satellite
classrooms in Hathorn Hall. Actively pursues knowledge of information
technology applications in foreign language teaching and research and
collaborates with faculty and students on evaluation and integration.
Collaborates with department chairs and faculty on planning, delivery
and evaluation of Language Resource Center services.

Essential Functions

1. Provides technology assistance to foreign language faculty and
students through both direct consultation and referrals to ILS services.

2. Guides and provides support for integration of new technologies into
the foreign language curriculum.

3. Manages Language Resource Center as primary site for foreign language
faculty technology development.

4. Supervises and trains student support staff.

5. Works closely with ILS staff to insure on-going support for projects.

6. Shares expertise and resources with faculty in related disciplines.

Additional Functions

1. Coordinate services of Language Resource Center with other ILS
facilities.

2. Develops instructional materials for multimedia development
applications.

3. Participates in ILS faculty technology instruction program.

4. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

· Undergraduate degree (BA/BS)
· Working knowledge of one or more foreign languages
· Experience staffing or managing user-centered technology or language
labs
· Working knowledge of standard multimedia development tools
· Experience with foreign language computer applications
· Ability to interact with users of varied skill levels and interests
· Ability to communicate and work effectively in a team-based
environment
· Ability to work independently
· Strong time and task management skills

Desired

· Vision of and commitment to the role of technology in foreign language
instruction and secondary language acquisition
· Teaching experience in foreign languages or literatures
· Technology instruction experience
· Advanced degree in foreign language or related discipline
· Experience managing language technology or media center
