Dear Colleagues:

The Academic Resource Center (Language Laboratories) at the
University of Kansas, Lawrence, is seeking an Administrative
Assistant, Full time, unclassified position, beginning August 18,
2001.

Duties include: Coordinate daily operations of the center
(acquisition, cataloguing, duplication of materials; maintaining
Spectrum circulation system software; scheduling of computer labs and
other resources; receiving/completing outside duplication orders);
assist in hiring, scheduling and supervising student personnel;
delegating daily activities to student workers; developing and
implementing training program for student programming assistants in
all facets of center's activities; assume responsibility for the
center's financial transactions (purchasing materials, appointments
and payroll, cash deposits, budgeting); assist faculty, students and
staff in accessing multimedia materials and equipment
(audio/video/computer) for their teaching and research; train
faculty, students, and staff to use the Center's specialized
equipment (SONY LC-9000, Visual presenter, mobile computer carts) and
software (CommonSpace, Deadalus, etc.).

Required qualifications: BA or equivalent job experience; excellent
organization and communication skills; excellent computer skills
(especially Word, Excel, database programs, PeopleSoft);  experience
working with AV equipment (duplicators, VCRs, audio and video
recording equipment); capacity to interact effectively with faculty,
staff and students at all levels.

Preferred qualifications: BA in languages, applied linguistics,
educational technology or related fields; experience supervising
student hourly workers; familiarity with KU accounting rules and
procedures; Work experience in a language laboratory, language
resource center, library; Experience with educational multimedia
software, web-composers, design (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc.) and
other productivity software (FileMaker Pro, Page Maker); Knowledge of
languages other than English
