My experience with scanning Chinese (and sometimes English) is that the
amount of time and effort that goes into proofreading and editing vs.
just retyping the text worksout to be about the same, if not favoring jus=
t
retyping.  The technology just isn't there yet to make it worth the
investment in software.  (Japanese might be different, but I doubt by
much.)

Of course, scanning text and just saving it as an image would be faster,
but it would be uneditable and the files would take up more (harddrive)
storage space, if either of those are concerns.
