Fellow LLTIer's,

Another question from the technically
impaired. We are wanting to use the Koss
SB-30 headsets in our labs. The Tandberg
computer headsets work great - good sound
quality, etc., but they are not durable
enough (we run 40 full labs per week and
we want the security of the KOSS physical
strength and the company warranty).

However, what we have found is that the
mic on the headset shows up great on our
software (full range, etc), but the
output of the mic doesn't seem strong
enough and we would like to amplify it.
(We have to turn the microphone setting
up so high that the sound seems a bit
distorted). I understand that KOSS
makes a product that does this.

However, as I checked out the various
electronic shops in the city, some of the
venders were suggesting that perhaps it
was my sound card that is the problem.
We have currently a Sound Blaster AWE 64
sound card. It works great for our mp3
files stored on the hard drive, but is
this the problem that we have with the
microphones?

Does anyone have any advice? Should we
be looking at updating our sound cards or
could it be as we thought simply a
need to boost our microphone signal?

Thank you to all for any help that you
might lend me on this matter.

The technically impaired (but learning),
Deanne Cobb
