                             Call for Papers
The CALICO Journal Special Issue on Asian Languages and Technology

To appear: Spring 2002
Submission Deadline: August 10, 2001

The CALICO Journal is inviting paper submissions for a special issue on
Asian languages and technology.  The issue seeks exemplary, cutting-edge
studies in computer-assisted Asian language learning and teaching.  The
following topics are suggested, but submissions concerning any application
of computer technology to Asian language education are welcome.

- Software development and assessment
- Web-based instruction
- Distance learning education
- Multimedia materials
- Handling Asian writing systems in educational software
- Second language acquisition
- Pedagogical effectiveness studies
- Natural language processing
- Intelligent tutoring systems

Articles previously published elsewhere or accepted for publication will not
be considered.  Authors may submit their manuscript on a 3.5" diskette or as
an e-mail attachment.  The manuscript should be in either in MS-Word or
WordPerfect format (PC or Macintosh).  Authors should follow the Publication
Manual of the American Psychological Association, 4th ed. (1994).

Manuscripts should:
- be double spaced;
- be no more than 30 pages in length (excluding bibliography, tables, notes,
etc.);
- have a title page stating the author's name, address, telephone number,
fax number, and e-mail address;
- include an abstract of no more than 200 words and a keywords list of up to
five salient words describing the content of the article;
- be accompanied by a biostatement of (each of) the author(s) not to exceed
120 words per author.

Graphs, charts, and figures should be included in the body of the manuscript
and in separate files (preferably in .EPS format).  Figures should exhibit a
high degree of contrast.

Please submit manuscripts to the special issue editor, Dr. Noriko Nagata
(University of San Francisco) at the following address by August 10, 2001.
The issue will be published in the CALICO Journal, Spring 2002 volume.
