First, let me say, I realize this does not respond to your question 
directly.

I have been using QuickTime on both Macs and Intel machines.  With Sorenson 
compression, you can get excellent quality with relatively small file 
sizes.   You can also add chapter marks which the user can pull down from 
the slider bar at the bottom of the window and the player will jump 
directly to that spot.
