Hi, Fatima:

QuickTime 4.0 Pro will allow you to add a text track to an audio file --
we've gotten it to work with Japanese and Cyrillic characters.  I'm not sure
how much additional data this adds to the QT file (in other words, if it's
enough to cause slow downloads over a modem) -- your clients will need to
have the requisite fonts installed on their local machines in order to view
the text track.

Greetings Ed and LLTI members,

The reason why I asked the question concerning the transcription of the 
audio is that reasearch shows that it helps develop proficiency and I wanted

to know if any of y'all have combined that aspect with digitized tapes.  Now

in terms of obtaining the transcriptions, it is no problem since the 
transcriptions of the tapes come with most textbook/audiotapes/cd-rom 
packet. The question here is what software can be used to match the text 
with the digitized sound?
