I would prefer to see these surveys on a web page with a short note posted to llti - but, unfortunately, this can't always be done..... my apologies. Therefore, I put "SURVEY REQUEST" in the subject line.

>Subject: replacement cycle issue survey (2 items) for Lab Directors/Managers

(double-posted: LLTI & CALICO)

Dear list members, especially lab directors/managers,
if you have a moment, would please respond to the two-item survey below:

A. What do you expect to be the replacement cycle (=useful life) of
*brand-new Windows or Mac computers bought in the year 2000* for use
as
student computers in a 20-25 station language lab?
B. What do you expect to be the useful life of *...* for use as
a language software development computer (Web/CD-ROM/DVD/digital video)?

Delete the lines that do not describe your expectations. Add "S" for
student computer, "D" for development computer at the end of the line
that describes your respective expectation.

Please note:
I send this survey in the middle of the summer when many colleagues
may have been away from their office or lab. I myself sent the survey
from a computer in the Watchman Cafe right outside of Zion Nationa
Park. Afterwards I went for a swim in the Virgin river because the
air was 104 F. With most everone probably back at work now, I am
resending this two-item- survey. As promised the first time around, I
will be happy to communicate the results. But in he summer I got only
9 reponses and I hope for a few more.

Thank You for your response.

Sincerely,
Dr. Bernd Conrad
