>Subject: Re: #5689 Paroles French CD-Rom Problems?

------------------
We've been running Paroles in our lab for two years now. It is a very hefty program so I tell students that the minimum requirements listed on the Paroles CD-ROM holder are about a step below what they should be. We run the CD-ROM on 233 and 266MHz computers with 64 MB RAM and the application works quite well. At 200 MHz, I have noticed a little bit of jerky video. If you are running Paroles on such "minimal" machines <remember when 200 MHz was the cat's meow!>, you will see such problems.

Couple of things to look at:

You should check to see what other applications might still be running on the operating system when you start up Paroles. Pesky applications in the Start-Up folder can take away from memory and processing speed that might otherwise go to Paroles.

Try running the movies and or sound files from the CD-ROM (and try a couple of different CD-ROMs) without actually starting the Paroles program. If you see the same problems then it may be a sound drivers or QuickTime issue. Updating the drivers or reinstalling QT may be called for here.

I'd start there and if you still aren't having any luck, let me know. I'd be happy to offer what assistance I can.

Hello-

This is my first message to this forum although I have spent the summer
reading and lurking.

Our lab has been having a heck of a time with the Paroles CD-Rom program for
French and I was wondering if there are any labs out there who are not
having problems (or have resolved them!). I have contacted tech support and
the rep and no one seems to know what the problem is. We are having
intermittent loss of audio & video when running this CD-rom. It just does
not seem to be stable. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't! We are
running Windows 95 and also have Windows 98 on our faculty development
stations and have run into the same problems. Students who purchase this
CD-Rom also have problems getting it to work from home.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions from people who have been using
this software.

Thank you!

-Janel
