Dear Fatima & LLTI,

I'd think about a G4 server: That's what the computer lab in the basement
here has. I'm experimenting with streaming mp3's over the campus network.
QuickTime 4.0 plays them (without downloading them) over the network very
well. I'd be glad to collaborate with folks that have the same titles. (Of
course we'd need to get permission from the publishers for this... No LLTI
version of Napster!)

We have (among other things)...

Kontakte (German)
Arriba (new edition)
Interaction (French)
Chez Nous (French)
Punto y aparte (Spanish)
Allons-y (French)

I've had good luck encoding as aiff in SoundEdit 16 (3:1 compression, 8
bit, 44 khz) and then converting to MP3 with SoundJam on the Macintosh.
That keeps the files a reasonable size (about 10 K for 20 min.)

Best,
Karl Fisher
