You'll probably get a number of responses w/ the same suggestion, but we 
use the very nice material prepared by the Asian Studies Dept at Purdue, 
and available as a download for Macs. As well as Hiragana/Katakana, they 
have a fun "Kanji Invader" game.
This is especially helpful if you are using NAKAMA, as it is based on
that book.
(I will be doing extensive research on this subject since I am taking
Japanese 001 this semester, and will struggle hard to keep up w/ the
regular students :-)  )
We, too, discovered that our earlier Mac material is not usable in OS 8
or 9.
