Re.: Senate Subcommittee to Hold Hearing
Regarding National Foreign Language
Needs

The JNCL notified me this morning that in September, the Senate Government
Affairs Subcommittee on International
Security, Proliferation and Federal Services will conduct two subcommittee
hearings on national language needs and capabilities in the United States.
The first subcommittee hearing is scheduled for September 14, 2000 and
will examine the increase in national language needs and capabilities and
the crisis the nation faces in addressing our future language
requirements. The second subcommittee hearing on September 19,
2000 will focus on current language policies and future solutions to
language problems in the United States. If any of you want to address
these issues, please submit all written testimony and comments by
September 19, 2000 to the address below. For further information on the
Subcommittee Hearing, visit the JNCL web site at www.languagepolicy.org
