                                CALL FOR PAPERS

                          Storytelling in the Americas


                         August 30 to September 1, 2001

                                Brock University
                        St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada



We welcome the submission of abstracts for 20-minute talks. Papers accepted
for presentation will be considered for an independent volume. Submissions
must address the issue of storytelling in the Americas. Specific areas of
inquiry include, but are not limited to the following:

        * Aboriginal Studies                    * Literary Studies
        * Audience and Reader's Response        * Myth
        * Children's Narratives                 * Oral Traditions
        * Cinema                                * Power and Language
        * Ethnolinguistics                      * Semiotics
        * Gender                                * Testimonial Narratives



The deadline for receiving abstracts is December 15, 2000. Acceptance of
your paper for presentation implies a commitment on your part to register
and attend the conference. Notification of acceptance will be sent out on
March 2, 2001. Only one individual and one joint abstract per author will
be accepted. Send 3 copies of a 250 word abstract. Include the title of the
paper on the abstract but not names. Please include a cover page with the
following:

        * author's name(s) and affiliation(s)    * e-mail
        * title of presentation                  * fax number
        * mailing address



Submissions by e-mail are also encouraged. Abstracts should be sent to
either contact below.
