(Please excuse double-posting to CALICO list)

Dear LLTI members, especially lab directors/managers,

if you have a moment, would please respond to the 2 following brief inquiries below:

1. What is your estimate of the current computer replacement cycle for a 20-25 station computer language lab? How many new computers every year, or, how long will a 400MHz G4 Mac or 550MHz Windows-based computer do its job before it needs to be replaced. Or even simpler yet:
Replacement cycle for lab computers bought in the year 2000:
1 year - 2 years - 3 year - 4 years - 5 years - more than 5 years

Please send reply to 2A or 2B to <[log in to unmask]> directly if you do feel like answering to the list:
2A. Provided you have the technical skills, what would you charge to set up by yourself 10 iMacs, load about 2 GB of language software via a switched Ethernet network, and set up a Launcher-based directory to software

2B. Same as 2A but different model: 1997 PowerMac 7300/200 with 64MB of RAM and 2 GB of hard disk space and 15" monitors with built-in speakers instead of iMacs

Thank You for your response.

Sincerely,
Dr. Bernd Conrad
