Several years ago we started using barcodes (3 of 9 format) and at the time, printing was very unreliable.  So we went to a commerical outfit and had thousands made for us in rolls of self-adhesive barcodes.  We're still using them, and they work very well.  We use the "gun" type reader (rather than the light pen type).

I don't know what people's experience is with printed bar codes, but if you plan to use lots, I'd certainly recommend looking into purchasing commercially prepared labels.  A little extra cost initially probably will pay off in the long run.

I would sure like to hear about your successes/problems, etc. in bar-coding
your
labs...

We're just getting ready and could benefit from advice re software,
equipment, things
to avoid, tricks, etc., etc.
