Yale University seeks a Director of Language Technology Resources who will
also
be Deputy Director of the Center for Language Study.  This is an
administrative
position, with the possibility of teaching one course/year in a lang/lit
department;  the position reports to the Director of Language Study, Nina
Garrett. 

Duties: 
§Directs staff and resources in the Center for Language Study in supporting
the
use of technology in foreign language teaching and learning.  
§Supervises staff responsible for regular operation of CLS technology
facilities and directs special technology projects including distance learning
in the Less Commonly Taught Languages. 
§ Is responsible for development of new facilities and services, including the
integration of virtual language learning environments. 
§Collaborates closely with faculty on the development of foreign language
teaching materials and instructional innovation projects, including planning,
development, management and evaluation of projects. 
§In collaboration with other CLS staff, develops and implements language
technology-related policies with wide-ranging implications. Coordinates CLS
educational program by planning/conducting workshops and professional
development classes. 

Job requirements: 
Understanding of institutional computing infrastructure
Experience with: 
§at least one advanced programming or scripting language 
§providing hands-on technical support in a wide variety of languages,
including
non-Western languages, on several platforms 
§evaluating, installing, debugging, and customizing hardware and software 
§designing, building, and maintaining websites 
Ability to interpret and convey technical information to language faculty, and
to interpret and convey diverse faculty needs to technical support personnel 

Preferred: advanced degree in either Second Language Acquisition or
Instructional Technology
