>Subject: Sony 9000 Problem
>To: LLTI <[log in to unmask]>

We have had a Sony 9000 system (console, 50 stations) for almost nine
years now, and we have had
very few operating problems with it. In fact, there have been years when
we have needed almost no service calls, except for prev. main. and
cleaning.
However, we have had a major drawback w/ it that our Sony reps say cannot
be
changed, and every year it is the subject of more and more complaints from
the students. With the new (and free) headsets that Sony installed a few
years after we got the system, there is no way to turn off the mic input
when the booth is in drill mode and when it is one of the four program
modes, EVEN when the mic is moved into the "off" (overhead rather than in
front of the mouth) position. The Sony rep tells us that there is nothing
to be done about this, but I don't think Sony realizes that this is not a
minor problem. If one is administering an exam from the console, every bit
of lab noise gets picked up and amplified into the students' headsets.
Can anyone come up w/ a fix for this (w/out losing the "drill" capability
it full?)
Thanks,
Ed
