>Subject: Re: #5433 Recording in Virtual PC?

------------------
We've had some problems recording with Virtual PC. The following was a reply from our staff to my query on the problem (and I hope it helps):

*********************************************************************
[We] tried to get WinPitch running on Virtual PC in our lab and were unsuccessful. I'm able to record some very bad sound in VPC through the Sound Recorder Accessory. It stutters and sounds terrible.

The Connectix Knowledge Base knows that this is what happens and recommends turning off Virtual Memory when recording sound through Virtual PC. They don't elaborate on this so I think they believe it to be a normal thing to do. Personally, I've had problems with installs that ask me to turn off VM.

This VM option may not, however, have anything to do with the sound recording functions of WinPitch which might be more app specific than system specific.

Dear Colleagues: I need to repost this since we never got one single
reply. We are still trying to get it to work, but maybe it is not
possible... Thank you for your time. Jörg

----------------------------------

We are a Mac lab but we run Virtual PC 2.0 on our G3 all-in-one computers.
An interesting problem has appeared: We are trying to use the French Your
Way 2.0 software with speech recognition, however, we cannot get the
program to record the voice of the student. The control panel for
recording is set up correctly on the Mac, you can hear yourself
talk/breathe, yet the sound does not arrive on the PC side. In the Virtual
PC Windows control panel, the recording level is greyed out and cannot be
changed. Does anyone know of a remedy, or do we just have to accept the
fact that the recording/playback feature will not work on a Mac running
Virtual PC?
