This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, December 4th, 
2012.



A HOARY REDPOLL was seen among a flock of about 100 COMMON REDPOLLS on 
Diamond Ledge Road in Sandwich on December 1st.



Over 160 COMMON REDPOLLS was reported from Stratham on December 2nd, but no 
HOARY REDPOLLS were found in the large flock.



PINE GROSBEAKS and COMMON REDPOLLS have again been reported from many 
locations during the past week. PINE GROSBEAKS have been reported from 
Keene, Chesterfield, Concord, Amherst, Salem, Greenland, and East Kingston, 
and COMMON REDPOLLS have been reported from Manchester, Nashua, and Keene. 
The PINE GROSBEAKS are often seen foraging in ornamental fruit trees and the 
COMMON REDPOLLS are often seen foraging in small birch trees.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen along Spofford Road about halfway between 
Westmoreland and Route 9 on December 2nd.



8 RAZORBILLS were seen along the coast on December 2nd.



6 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, and 10 NORTHERN GANNETS were tallied on the coast 
on December 2nd.



28 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen at Concord Point in Rye, and 2 BLACK-BELLIED 
PLOVERS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park, all on December 2nd.



A BRANT was seen on Great Bay on December 1st.



A GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 4 LESSER SCAUP, 55 HOODED MERGANSERS, 80 COMMON 
MERGANSERS, 7 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 8 COMMON LOONS, 2 HORNED GREBES, 3 
RING-BILLED GULLS, and a HERRING GULL were seen on Spofford Lake in 
Chesterfield on December 2nd.



11 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, and an AMERICAN WIGEON were seen 
in Hampton, and 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS and 13 COMMON MERGANSERS were seen in 
Rye, all on December 1st.



140 LESSER SCAUP, 5 GREATER SCAUP, 4 RUDDY DUCKS, an AMERICAN WIGEON, and 2 
GREEN-WINGED TEAL were all seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on 
December 2nd.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER and a flock of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were 
reported from Bethlehem on December 1st.



A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was seen in Barrington on November 29th.



A FISH CROW was reported from Salem on December 3rd.



A KILLDEER and a PEREGRINE FALCON were seen on the coast on December 1st.



A FOX SPARROW was seen in Concord on November 29th, and 1 was seen in 
Manchester on December 1st.



A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW and a flock of 30 AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were 
reported from Penacook on December 2nd.



A late-migrating OSPREY was seen on Lake Massabesic in Auburn, and another 
one was reported from Pittsfield, both on November 30th.



A flock of 10 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS was seen in Merrimack, and 2 were reported 
from Concord, all on November 30th.



2 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS were reported from Nashua on November 29th, 1 was 
reported from Concord on the 29th, and a COMMON GRACKLE was reported from 
New London on November 30th.



A flock of 60 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS was seen in East Kingston on December 
2nd.
