This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, April 21st, 
2010.



A WHITE-EYED VIREO was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on April 
18th.



A male NORTHERN SHOVELER was seen in an unnamed pond next to Route 132 in 
New Hampton near the Fish Hatchery on April 19th.



2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 2 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 11 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 4 
BUFFLEHEADS, 2 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 5 DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANTS, and 6 
BONAPARTE'S GULLS were seen on Spofford Lake in Chesterfield on April 16th.



An informal coastal survey on April 18th tallied 4 RAZORBILLS, 3 GLOSSY 
IBISES, 2 FISH CROWS, 3 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 160 SURF SCOTERS, 76 WHITE-WINGED 
SCOTERS, 48 BLACK SCOTERS, 141 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 117 RED-BREASTED 
MERGANSERS, 17 RED-THROATED LOONS, 156 COMMON LOONS, 6 HORNED GREBES, 35 
RED-NECKED GREBES, 39 NORTHERN GANNETS, 2,279 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, a 
GREAT CORMORANT, 5 GREAT EGRETS, 2 SNOWY EGRETS, 11 OSPREYS, 1 MERLIN, 2 
PEREGRINE FALCONS, a SORA, a PIPING PLOVER, 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 18 
SANDERLINGS, 169 PURPLE SANDPIPERS, and 10 DUNLINS.



2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were seen at Chapman's Landing in Stratham on April 
20th.



9 WILSON'S SNIPE were seen at the fields on Krif Road in Keene on April 
15th, and 5 were reported from the Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in 
Jefferson on the 18th.



4 BUFFLEHEADS, 15 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 4 DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANTS, 5 
RED-NECKED GREBES, and a HORNED GREBE were seen on Mascoma Lake in Enfield 
on April 16th.



A RED-BREASTED MERGANSER and 52 DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANTS were seen on Lake 
Massabesic in Auburn on April 16th.



2 PIED-BILLED GREBES were reported from the Deer Hill Wildlife Management 
Area in Brentwood on April 21st.



4 BARN SWALLOWS, 3 BANK SWALLOWS, and 5 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were seen along 
the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on April 16th.



FISH CROWS were reported from Keene, Concord, and Hampton during the past 
week.



EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported from Keene and Spofford during the past 
week.



A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was seen in Penacook on April 19th.



A GRAY CATBIRD and an AMERICAN REDSTART were reported from Hampton on April 
21st.



A BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was seen in Rye and one was seen in Concord, both on 
April 18th.



A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was reported from Exeter on April 15th.



A LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was reported from Westmoreland, and one was reported 
from Lebanon, both on April 21st.



A BROAD-WINGED HAWK was seen in Hollis on April 19th.



A pair of MERLINS was seen at the Hanover Golf Course, where they have 
regularly nested for the past several years, on April 18th.



A flock of 11 TURKEY VULTURES was seen in Concord on April 19th.



Returning migrants reported during the past week included NORTHERN HARRIERS, 
BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, HERMIT THUSHES, PALM and 
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, BROWN THRASHERS, EASTERN TOWHEES, and FIELD 
SPARROWS.
