Following Eric Masterson's lead I decided to check corn fields along the river in Lyme that I know in times past have hosted geese. A couple of hundred yards north of the Lyme bridge in the river and in an adjacent corn field were 100 +/- canada geese and 41 snow geese. Also seen were 8 black ducks and nine mallards. There were perhaps another two dozen geese in a corn field on the Thetford, VT side. Over a period of ten minutes, both the NH and VT geese moved to a corn field on the VT side that is framed by the river, the rail road tracks and VT Rt. 113. I got to within 30-to40 yards of the combined flocks and got a rough count of 140. As I was doing a close scan for the pink-footed, something spooked the flock, and it went air born. Some of it regrouped back at the original NH site but was less visible. I cannot say with certainty that the pink-footed wasn't there, but over the course of the 45 minutes I spent observing the birds, I didn't see anything
other than canada geese.
