This is the second sighting of a beaver avoiding a culvert and using the road instead. Isn't this the same thing they would do on one of their engineered ponds--walk over the dam rather than thunder through a metal tunnel and outflowing stream? As engineers, aren't they more inclined to favor roads and bridges? One night, another time of year, I too saw a very small beaver--a young one off to seek his fortune?--also dash across the bridge over the stream, avoiding a metal culvert. Another hypothesis I have is about how beavers may be trying to avoid anything like a beaver trap. Any ideas?
