Last night we saw five woodcock males peenting and doing their aerial display. Bill had mentioned they were in Thetford already, but with the frozen ground I hadn’t expected so many eager males quite yet. This may auger well for a big timberdoodle season. Saw one female on the ground.
By the time I got the camera out, it was dark. Shooting blind, I took some shots while moving the focus ring, hoping I’d get lucky. That got me this shot…
