UV-Birders:

Given that this list serves an open forum of birders with varied levels of experience, I think it would be most helpful to always include the Common Names of birds when reporting sightings.  Providing the Alpha Codes in addition is a bonus, and a good learning experience for those (myself included) who are not that familiar with them.  BTW, thanks to David Merker for posting the link to the complete list of codes.

As to etiquette about corrections or requests for clarification:  always be gentle.  You never know when you'll be the one making the next typo, omission, or foolish observation....  I routinely make several mistakes a day, just to stay in practice.  I'd hate to think that birders of any level would feel unwelcome reading or posting to this list.

I always appreciate the contributions from Kent McFarland and the many other experts who post here, and feel that this ListServ is quite fortunate to benefit from such local resources as the Vermont Center for Ecostudies, VINS, the Montshire Museum, the local Audubon Societies, and other groups.
