This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, January 12th,
2015.
A juvenile RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was discovered near the public boat launch
at Adams Point in Durham on November 10th. It has been seen several times
since then, and was last reported on the January 11th.
A SNOWY OWL continues to be seen at Ragged Neck in Rye, and was last
reported on January 11th.
A SNOWY OWL was seen from Cross Beach Road in Seabrook on January 11th.
1 or 2 female HARLEQUIN DUCKS were seen along the coast in Rye on January
11th.
A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE and a female BLACK SCOTER were seen on Opechee Bay
in Laconia on January 12th.
A BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen on the Merrimack River in Manchester on
January 12th, and 50 COMMON GOLDENEYES were reported from the Merrimack
River in Manchester on January 10th.
4 RAZORBILLS were seen from Fort Constitution in New Castle on January 11th.
A GLAUCOUS GULL continues to be reported from the Seabrook side of Hampton
Harbor and was last reported on January 11th.
An ICELAND GULL was seen at Rockingham Park in Salem on January 12th.
An ICELAND GULL and a female NORTHERN PINTAIL were seen at the Exeter
Wastewater Treatment Plant on January 10th.
3 GLAUCOUS GULLS and 4 ICELAND GULLS were seen at the Rochester Wastewater
Treatment Plant on January 10th. The treatment plant is gated and the hours
of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the
office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have
to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the
road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not
gated, and are always open during daylight hours.
A possible dark-morph GYRFALCON was seen near the Rochester Wastewater
Treatment Plant and the Trails at Pickering Ponds in Rochester on January
7th.
A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was reported from Hampton on January 10th.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was reported from Hampton on January 11th, and a MERLIN
was seen at Eel Pond in Rye on January 10th.
A NORTHERN HARRIER was seen in East Kingston on January 10th, and 1 was seen
in Seabrook on the 11th.
A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen in Hampton Falls on January 10th.
A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen in South Sutton on January 8th.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at the Whitefield Airport on January 10th.
A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen along Krif Road in Keene on January 8th.
A flock of over 20 COMMON REDPOLLS was seen along Base Road in Crawford
Notch on January 10th. A COMMON REDPOLL was seen visiting a birdfeeder in
Orford, and one was seen at a feeder in Rochester, both on January 11th. A
COMMON REDPOLL was seen in Sutton on the 12th.
A SNOW BUNTING was seen on Trask Brook Road in Sunapee on January 6th, and
15 were tallied along the coast on the 11th.
A flock of more than 30 EVENING GROSBEAKS has been seen regularly visiting a
birdfeeder in Bethlehem during the past week, and a single EVENING GROSBEAK
was reported from Surry on January 7th.
A flock of 20 PINE SISKINS was seen in Keene on January 6th, and a flock of
45 was seen in Bedford on the 11th.
A GRAY JAY was seen on Mount Garfield in the White Mountains on January
10th.
A SANDERLING was seen in Rye Harbor on January 10th, 7 DUNLIN were seen in
Hampton Harbor on the 11th, and 15 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen along the
coast on the 11th.
5 GREATER SCAUP were seen along the coast on January 11th.
A pair of GADWALL was seen in coastal New Castle on January 11th.
A female GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen on the Mascoma River in Lebanon on
January 12th.
4 FISH CROWS were reported from Salem on January 12th.
2-3 TURKEY VULTURES were seen at the Attitash Ski area in Bartlett on
January 9th. It was all downhill after that!
3 TURKEY VULTURES were seen in Exeter on January 11th.
A PINE WARBLER was seen in Gilford on January 12th.
A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was seen at Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem on
January 9th.
A NORTHERN FLICKER was reported from Rochester on January 5th, and 1 was
reported from Bedford on the 9th.
A GRAY CATBIRD and a NORTHERN FLICKER were seen along River Road in Stratham
on January 11th.
A GRAY CATBIRD and a pair of HOODED MERGANSERS were seen at the Wendell
Wildlife Management Area in Sunapee on January 11th.
A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in Penacook on January 10th.
A HERMIT THRUSH and 2 WINTER WRENS were seen on the Mink Brook trails in
Hanover on January 10th.
A WINTER WREN was reported from Portsmouth in January 11th.
A flock of 15 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS was seen visiting a birdfeeder in Kingston
on January 10th.
A CAROLINA WREN was seen in Troy on January 6th, and 1 was seen in Derry on
January 8th.
A CHIPPING SPARROW was seen in Lee on January 6th.
A SAVANNAH SPARROW was seen along River Road in Walpole on January 9th.
An EASTERN SCREECH-OWL was reported from Salem on January 10th.
45 COMMON RAVENS were seen along Trudeau Road in Bethlehem on January 10th.
