In years past, I have occasionally seen bats flying in the daytime in early spring. However, I think people should be on the look-out for dead bats, as this behavior in this case may be related to the white-nose syndrome. We had a bat flying in the yard in daylight in late March, and last week my neighbor called to say that he had found four dead bats around his home. This week the Valley News had a front page article about the white-nose syndrome affecting the bats at the Elizabeth Mine in Strafford, which is only a few miles from my home. It may be that the bats that you all are seeing are also infected. I hope not.
