This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, October 16th, 
2013.



A SANDHILL CRANE was seen from Carter Hill in Concord on October 14th.



A GREATER WHITE FRONTED GOOSE was seen with CANADA GEESE on Main Street just 
below the 12th Street bridge in Berlin on October 13th, 14th, and 15th.



A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen at Sherman Farms in Conway on October 13th.



A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen in North Conway on October 14th.



A LEACH'S STORM-PETREL was seen from Ragged Neck in Rye on October 12th.



2 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 2 
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 8 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, a WHIMBREL, a SORA, 10 NELSON’S 
SPARROWS, and 6 SALTMARSH SPARROWS were seen in Hampton Marsh on October 
13th.



A BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE and a FORSTER’S TERN were seen in Hampton Harbor on 
October 12th.



A BONAPARTE'S GULL was seen on Spofford Lake in Chesterfield on October 
13th.



A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen on Lake Winnepesaukee in Wolfeboro on October 
13th, and a PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen on Horseshoe Pond in Concord on the 
13th.



7 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 5 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and a WILSON'S SNIPE were seen 
at the Copps Pond Wildlife Management Area in Tuftonboro on October 12th.



42 RING-NECKED DUCKS, a SURF SCOTER, 3 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 35 BLACK 
SCOTERS, 2 COMMON GOLDENEYES, a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, 2 PIED-BILLED 
GREBES, and 2 RED-NECKED GREBES were all seen at Cherry Pond at the 
Pondicherry Audubon Sanctuary in Jefferson on October 13th.



2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and 16 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen at World End Pond in 
Salem on October 12th.



32 BLACK SCOTERS were seen migrating over Pack Monadnock in Peterborough on 
October 13th, 70 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen flying from Carter Hill in 
Concord, and 3 SURF SCOTERS were seen on Lake Waukewan in Meredith on 
October 14th.



An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was reported from Hancock on October 15th.



A male BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen from the forest trails along Trudeau 
Road in Bethlehem on October 12th.



A pair of EVENING GROSBEAKS was seen in Lyman on October 11th.



A FISH CROW was found in Durham on October 10th.



An AMERICAN COOT was seen on World End Pond and 1 was seen at Canobie Lake, 
both in Salem on October 13th.



A GREAT EGRET was seen at Adams Pond in Derry on October 13th.



A WILSON’S SNIPE was reported from Pittsfield on October 10th.



12 PEREGRINE FALCONS and over 10,000 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were seen 
migrating south along the coast on October 12th.



RAPTOR migration is under way with over 10,300 migrating raptors reported 
from the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and 
over 10,950 reported from the Carter Hill Observatory in Concord, all since 
September 1st. Be sure to visit these New Hampshire Audubon sponsored 
observatories this fall season to help out with the count!
