This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, January 17th, 
2008.



An EARED GREBE has been regularly seen on the coast in the cove located near 
the North Hampton and Rye town line, and was most recently reported on 
January 12th.



A female KING EIDER was seen off of North Side Park in Hampton on January 
15th.



A male HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen opposite James Street, near North Side Park 
in Hampton on January 15th.



A male EURASIAN WIGEON, 38 AMERICAN WIGEON, and 200 GREATER SCAUP were seen 
on the east side of Great Bay in Greenland on January 13th.



A pair of BARROW'S GOLDENEYES was seen off of Great Boar's Head in Hampton 
on January 15th.



2 RAZORBILLS, 2 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, and 6 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES were seen 
off of Seabrook Beach on January 12th.



A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen off of Island Path in Hampton, and one was seen 
at the airport on Quincy Road in Plymouth, both on January 12th.



An adult BLACK-HEADED GULL, 3 ICELAND GULLS, a GLAUCOUS GULL, and a pair of 
NORTHERN PINTAILS were all reported from the Rochester Wastewater Treatment 
Plant and Pickering Ponds on January 11th. The treatment plant is gated and 
the hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check 
in at the office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do 
not have to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block 
the road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not 
gated, and are always open during daylight hours.



An ICELAND GULL was in seen Hampton Harbor on January 15th.



A male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, 98 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 4 LESSER SCAUP, 30 HOODED 
MERGANSERS, 53 COMMON MERGANSERS, a WOOD DUCK, 4 RING-NECKED DUCKS, and 67 
AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS were seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on 
January 13th.



2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen in Jefferson on January 10th.



NORTHERN SHRIKE sightings during the past week included 1 in Greenland on 
January 15th, 1 in Rye on the 15th, 1 in Keene on the 13th, 1 in Surry on 
the 13th, 2 in Hampton on the 13th, 1 in Plymouth on the 13th, 1 in 
Bethlehem on the 13th, 1 in Hinsdale on the 12th, 2 in Hampton Falls on the 
12th, and 1 in Rochester on the 11th.



2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 20 SNOW BUNTINGS, and 200 HORNED LARKS were seen in 
Westmoreland on January 13th.



2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS and 4 HORNED LARKS were seen in fields along Route 113 
in East Conway on January 13th.



2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen at the Runnymede Farm in North Hampton on 
January 12th, and 65 HORNED LARKS were seen here on the 13th.



Over 60 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen on Route 202 in Antrim near the Deering 
airstrip on January 16th, and 3 were reported from Brentwood on the 12th.



COMMON REDPOLL sightings during the past week included 140 on Diamond Ledge 
Road in Sandwich on January 17th, 110 in Rumney on the 14th, 25 in Mont 
Vernon on the 13th, and 80 in Jefferson on the 11th.



BOHEMIAN WAXWING sightings during the past week included 34 near downtown 
Rumney on January 13th, and 50 in Milton on the 13th.



A flock of 200 CEDAR WAXWINGS with 1 BOHEMIAN WAXWING mixed in was seen on 
Hall Street in Concord on January 13th.



PINE GROSBEAK sightings during the past week included 13 on Ridge Rd in 
Farmington on January 15th, 10 in Keene on the 13th, 41 near Dort Road in 
Surry on the 13th, 9 on White Oak Road in Center Barnstead on the 13th, 6 on 
Route 28 in Epsom on the 12th, and 15 in Kingston on the 12th.



EVENING GROSBEAK sightings during the past week included 6 in Langdon on 
January 12th, and 25 in Jefferson on the 11th.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Manchester on January 10th, a MERLIN was seen 
on Seabrook Beach on January 12th, and an AMERICAN KESTREL was seen along 
Drakeside Road in Hampton on January 13th.



2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS and a BOREAL CHICKADEE were seen off of Trudeau 
Road in Bethlehem on January 13th. 2 BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen at the AMC 
Lonesome Lake Hut in Lincoln on the 13th.



A WINTER WREN was seen in Penacook on January 13th.



2 FIELD SPARROWS were seen off of North Shore Road in Hampton on January 
13th.



A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen in Seabrook on January 12th.



5 FISH CROWS and a TURKEY VULTURE were reported from near the McDonald's 
restaurant on Route 28 in Salem on January 12th.



12 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were seen at the Newington Town Forest on January 13th.



15 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS were seen on Holden Hill Road in Langdon on January 
12th.
