This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, May 19th,
2010.
A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was found in North Conway on May 18th. It was
first seen near the white congregational church across from Peaches
Restaurant, between Main Street. and the new North-South Road. It was
relocated again on May 19th, and was seen in the same area as well as the
fence behind Hancock Lumber on White Mountain Highway, North Conway. There
is a small parking area near the building. It was also seen on several
telephone poles, especially near transformers, and along Depot Road.
At least 1 MISSISSIPPI KITE was seen flying in Newmarket on May 16th and
17th. There were sightings from several locations, including Route 108, Dame
Road, and Gonet Drive. Two pairs of MISSISSIPPI KITES nested in Newmarket
last year.
2 WORM-EATING WARBLERS were reported during the past week, one from Odiorne
Point State Park in Rye on May 13th, and another in Hampton on Hemlock
Street on May 14th and 15th. Neither has been relocated since those dates.
An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen in vegetated dunes along Route 1A in
Seabrook on May 18th.
A BLACK TERN, 33 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, and 8 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were all seen
on Spofford Lake in Chesterfield on May 15th.
An ARCTIC TERN was seen on the Connecticut River at Herrick's Cove on May
19th, and 3 COMMON TERNS were seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on
May 15th.
2 LEAST TERNS were seen flying in Hampton Marsh on May 17th.
3 ROSEATE TERNS were reported from Hampton Harbor on May 19th.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on May 19th.
A flock of BRANT was heard migrating at night in Ashland on May 18th.
A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER and 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported from the
Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on May 15th.
An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was reported from Huntress Bridge Road at the New
Hampshire Audubon Watts Wildlife Sanctuary in Effingham on May 13th, and
several PURPLE MARTINS were reported from Route 153 in Freedom, also on the
13th.
There were a few reports of BLACK-BILLED and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS, COMMON
NIGHTHAWKS and WHIP-POOR-WILLS during the past week.
There were also several reports of WILSON'S, TENNESSEE, BAY-BREASTED,
MOURNING, and BLACKPOLL WARBLERS during the past week.
A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was reported from Ashland on May 15th.
There were a few a sightings of migrating shorebirds during the past week,
including SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, LEAST SANDPIPER, and
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER.
