While walking through the parking lot at work today, I heard the call of
a Red-bellied Woodpecker, and saw it in flight. I'll keep an eye out for
it. 

 

As a nostalgic side-note, the first Red-bellied Woodpecker I saw was
near my home in Western PA, back about this time of year in 1983.
Red-bellied Woodpeckers were just starting to move into the area
then...and they've been resident since then in my parent's neighborhood.


 

As others have mentioned, I suspect that we have added a new species to
our avifauna, much like the Carolina Wren earlier this decade.
