This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, May 2nd, 
2012.



A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen migrating north in Hancock on April 28th, and 1 was 
seen migrating north in Roxbury on May 1st.



A BLACK VULTURE was seen along Route 4 in Barrington on April 27th.



A SNOW GOOSE was seen with 7 CANADA GEESE in Laconia on April 28th.



An UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen at Storrs Hill in Lebanon on May 2nd.



A SORA was heard at a pond on Old Mill Road in Lee on April 28th, and May 
2nd.



16 GLOSSY IBIS and 23 unidentified TERNS were reported from Hampton on April 
29th.



An AMERICAN BITTERN was heard at NH Audubon's Chase Sanctuary in Hopkinton 
on April 28th and 29th.



A GREEN HERON was seen at Lake Massabesic in Auburn on May 1st, 1 was seen 
in a wetland along Sanborn Road in Ashland on April 26th, and 1 was reported 
from Boston Lot Lake in Lebanon on May 2nd.



A GREAT EGRET, a GREEN HERON, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 5 LESSER SCAUP, a 
BUFFLEHEAD, and 2 MARSH WRENS were seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment 
Plant on April 26th, and a LEAST SANDPIPER was seen here on May 1st.



12 SNOWY EGRETS were seen in the marshes located opposite Wallis Sands in 
Rye on April 28th.



An EASTERN SCREECH-OWL was reported from Center Ossipee on April 25th.



A pair of EVENING GROSBEAKS was seen in Rumney on April 25th, and 3 were 
seen in Berlin on April 30th.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, 3 PALM WARBLERS, and 15 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS 
were reported from Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on 
April 25th and 26th.



A female BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen on Greenough Pond Road in Errol, 
near Route 16, on April 30th.



2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen in Holderness on April 29th.



A RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD was reported from Exeter on April 30th.



A BALTIMORE ORIOLE was seen in Hancock on April 28th.



A pair or ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS was seen in Canterbury on May 1st, 1 was 
reported from Roxbury on the 1st, and 1 was seen in Barrington on May 2nd.



An EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE was reported from Hampton on May 2nd.



A "fallout" of about 100 warblers including YELLOW-RUMPED, PALM, YELLOW, 
BLACKBURNIAN, BLACK-AND-WHITE, NASHVILLE, and PINE, as well as COMMON 
YELLOWTHROAT and NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was reported from Hinsdale on May 2nd. 
Also seen were an EASTERN KINGBIRD, 2 LEAST FLYCATCHERS, 4 GRAY CATBIRDS, 
and a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK.



A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, a WARBLING VIREO, a YELLOW WARBLER, a BROWN 
THRASHER, 2 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, and 2 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS were 
reported from Krif Road in Keene on May 2nd.



A PRAIRIE WARBLER was heard in Madbury on May 2nd.



A NASHVILLE WARBLER was reported from Antrim on April 30th.



A COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was seen in Hampton on April 29th.



50 CHIMNEY SWIFTS were seen in Concord on May 1st.



2 VIRGINIA RAILS were heard in the wetlands located behind the Post Office 
on Loudon Road in Concord on May 1st, and 2 were heard on Longmarsh Road in 
Durham on May 2nd.



A MARSH WREN was reported from Keene on May 2nd.



A WILLET was seen in Hampton and 1 was seen in Rye, both on April 25th.



A GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a SPOTTED SANDPIPER were reported from Powder Mill 
Pond in Hancock on May 2nd.



5 HORNED GREBES and an AMERICAN COOT were seen on the Connecticut River at 
Kilowatt Landing on April 27th, and a RED-NECKED GREBE was seen here on May 
1st. A GREATER SCAUP had been present here during the past week.



A pair of RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS was seen in a wetland near the Keene 
Airport on April 29th.



A flock of 300 mostly BLACK and SURF SCOTERS was seen off of Seabrook Beach 
on April 28th.



45 COMMON LOONS were tallied on Lake Massabesic in Auburn on May 1st, and 14 
were seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on May 2nd.



63 WOOD DUCKS, a WILSON'S SNIPE, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4 SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 
2,000 TREE SWALLOWS, 200 BARN SWALLOWS, 6 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS, 
and a BANK SWALLOW were all seen at the Derry Wastewater Treatment Plant on 
May 1st. Permission is required to bird here. The treatment plant is not 
open on weekends.



A BLUE-WINGED TEAL, a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, a CHIMNEY SWIFT, a CLIFF SWALLOW, 
and 2 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant 
on May 1st. The treatment plant is gated and the hours of operation are 
7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in to the office and be 
out of the plant by 2:45 pm so that plant personnel do not have to ask 
birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the roads.



Early arrivals reported during the past week included several of each of 
OVENBIRD, YELLOW WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, BLACK-AND-WHITE 
WARBLER, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, BARN SWALLOW, NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, 
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, CAROLINA WREN, HOUSE WREN, WHIP-POOR-WILL, BLUE-GRAY 
GNATCATCHER, BROWN THRASHER, EASTERN TOWHEE, and FIELD SPARROW.



BROAD-WINGED HAWKS were reported from many locations during the past week.



There was an unconfirmed report of a BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK on Kilton 
Pond in Grafton on April 23rd.



A pair of PEREGRINE FALCONS is nesting in Manchester and has already begun
