This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, June 16th, 
2010.



A BLACK SKIMMER and 3 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS were seen in Hampton Harbor on 
June 12th, but have not been relocated.



An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen in Hampton Harbor on June 10th. 
Also present were 4 ROSEATE TERNS and 2 FISH CROWS. A GLOSSY IBIS was seen 
in Hampton Marsh.



4 CORY'S SHEARWATERS, 6 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, and 3 GREATER SHEARWATERS were 
reported from a whale watch cruise out of Rye on June 15th.



2,251 COMMON TERN nests were counted during a census on White and Seavey 
Islands in the Isles of Shoals on June 12th.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was found in a field along Arboretum Drive just west 
of Short Road in Portsmouth on June 13th. Another CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was 
reported from Hancock on June 14th, and was heard again on the 16th.



A BICKNELL'S THRUSH was seen, and 2 more were heard on the summit of Cannon 
Mountain in Franconia Notch on June 15th. On the Mount Washington Auto Road, 
a BICKNELL'S THRUSH was seen, and 2 were heard, also on June 15th.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER nest can be seen from the viewing platform at the 
end of the trail out to Little Cherry Pond in the Pondicherry National 
Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson. The nest is located in a dead black spruce 
about 400 feet across the water to the southwest. A spotting scope is 
recommended. The birds were last reported on June 15th.



2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were reported from the Trudeau Road wetlands 
trails on June 15th.



A PALM WARBLER and 3 MERLINS were reported from the Lake Umbagog Area on 
June 13th.



An ORCHARD ORIOLE was reported from along Route 1A just north of Odiorne 
Point State Park in Rye on June 10th, and 3 ORCHARD ORIOLES were reported 
from New Hampshire Fish & Game's Bellamy River Wildlife Management Area in 
Dover on June 12th.



A PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen in the pond located adjacent to the Steeplegate 
Mall in Concord, and 3 VESPER SPARROWS were reported from the Concord 
Airport, all on June 14th.



3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were reported from the Dartmouth College Grant and 3 were 
reported from Errol, all on June 12th.



A hiker on the Gooseye Trail near Success Pond in Coos County counted 5 
MOURNING WARBLERS.



4 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen at a bird feeder in Madison on June 16th.
