This morning I was out in the yard filling the bird feeders. I was not more
than 4 feet away from a feeder when a female pine grosbeak landed on it and
began to eat with an astonishing lack of concern about my presence. I
stopped moving, and 5 more Pine Grosbeaks arrived. One almost landed on my
head, but had second thoughts at the last minute. There were 3 pairs. It
was a magic moment until my dog came rushing over and broke up the party.
