This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, November 24th, 
2014.



3 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS including an adult male, a first year male and a 
female have been seen most regularly with a large flock of EUROPEAN 
STARLINGS, BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS, and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS foraging in 
grassy and shrubby locations along Route 1A, side streets along Route 1A, 
and along Route 286 in Seabrook and near Hampton Beach State Park. At least 
2 of the YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were seen near the Staples located on 
Lafayette Road in North Hampton on November 21st, and 1 was seen in Seabrook 
on the 23rd.



A juvenile RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen near the public boat launch at 
Adams Point in Durham on November 10th and has been seen several times since 
then. It was last reported on the 23rd.



A SNOWY OWL was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on November 22nd.



A female HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen in Hampton Harbor on November 23rd.



A CACKLING GOOSE, a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, and a NORTHERN PINTAIL were 
seen at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant on November 21st. The 
treatment plant is gated and the hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on 
weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the office and be out of the 
plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have to ask birders to leave. 
Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the road. The Trails at Pickering 
Ponds, located east of the plant, are not gated, and are always open during 
daylight hours.



A SNOW GOOSE was seen with a flock of CANADA GOOSE at Eel Pond in Rye on 
November 24th, a SNOW GOOSE was seen with a flock of CANADA GEESE in fields 
at Spring Hill Farm on Bear Hill Road in Hillsborough on the 21st and 23rd, 
and a SNOW GOOSE was seen with a flock of CANADA GEESE at Tenny's Farm on 
Route 202 in Antrim on the 21st and 22nd. Also seen at Tenny’s Farm was a 
flock of 120 HORNED LARKS.



A GADWALL was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on November 
22nd, and 40 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen there on the 23rd.



A NORTHERN SHOVELER and a NORTHERN PINTAIL were seen on the Squam River in 
Ashland on November 23rd.



A male SURF SCOTER was seen on Long Pond in Concord on November 23rd.



28 HORNED GREBES were seen near Blueberry Island on Lake Winnipesaukee in 
Moultonborough on November 24th.



101 RUDDY DUCKS were tallied at Willand Pond in Dover and Somersworth on 
November 21st.



160 COMMON MERGANSERS were seen on Lake Kanasatka in Moultonborough on 
November 24th.



2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were seen in Hampton Harbor, and over 30 PURPLE 
SANDPIPERS were seen along the coast, all on November 23rd.



6 COMMON REDPOLLS were seen along Bog Road in Penacook on November 23rd.



A WILSON’S WARBLER, and 2 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were seen in Hampton on 
November 22nd. A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was soon in Pittsfield, and another 
was seen in Ashland, both on November 23rd.



2 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen at Rye Harbor State Park on November 22nd.



At least 4 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS and a RUDDY DUCK were seen at Great Pond in 
Kingston on November 24th



A flock of over 15 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS was reported from Peterborough on 
November 22nd.



2 HERMIT THRUSHES were reported from Hopkinton on November 21st.



A KILLDEER was seen in Hillsborough on November 21st.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Hampton on November 22nd, and 24th.



At least 4 TURKEY VULTURES were reported from near major highways in the 
southeast part of the state during the past week.



WILD TURKEYS have requested that any postings of sightings of them be 
omitted from the Rare Bird Alert until after Thanksgiving.
