This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for July 30, 2007 covering the period
July 23 - 29, 2007.

 

This week's highlights include two STILT SANDPIPERS seen in a flock of
LESSER YELLOWLEGS at Dead Creek Brilyea Access area on 7/28 and a
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT spotted in Vernon the morning of 7/30.

 

A GREAT EGRET was observed at Brilyea Access (Dead Creek) on 7/25, 7/28 and
7/30; two were sighted in Brandon on 7/29.

Three MERLINS were spotted in Rutland on 7/24, 2 on 7/27 and 1 on 7/28. 

  

Low water at Dead Creek provided views of the following migrating
shorebirds:  GREATER YELLOWLEGS (1 on 7/22 and 7/30, 2 on 7/28); LESSER
YELLOWLEGS (10 on 7/28, 25 on 7/30); SOLITARY SANDPIPER (2 on 7/22);
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER (4 on 7/22, 5 on 7/28 and a few on 7/30); LEAST
SANDPIPER (8 on 7/22, 30 on 7/28 and large numbers on 7/30); PECTORAL
SANDPIPER (3 on 7/25, a few on 7/28 and 5 on 7/30).

 

There were several sightings of CASPIAN TERNS this week including 1 at
Charcoal Creek in Lowell on 7/24, 2 near Rock Island in Lake Champlain on
7/24, 1 at Colchester Pond on 7/27 and 1 at Brilyea Access on 7/30.
