For all who love watching birds flying, nesting, swimming, singing,
at Foley Point ( south side Ledyard Bridge, Norwich) your letters of
support for a low-impact public park have been received by the
Norwich select board. Under the new chair's policy they will be
paraphrased, not read in their entirety, at Wednesday's meeting.
Recent efforts to put the subject of the board agenda have not
succeeded. Many residents and visitors share the vision of a public
river park with access by foot, bicycle, and canoe, possibly with a
modest rain shelter and stationary viewing scope. We will try again
to convince the board to put this idea on their agenda. Vermont
statute gives authority to select boards to layout public parks and
that process begins with a presentation of the idea to the board as
an agenda item.

For those interested in speaking up about the benefits of a public
park for bird watching, as a scenic rest stop for hikers, as a family
picnic site, please attend Wednesday's select board meeting, 6:30 Pm
at Tracy Hall.
