Today (11 May 11) around noon, two Willow Flycatchers were "Whitting"
away behind the Ray School next to the "vernal pool." On Monday, a
Louisiana Waterthrush was bobbing next to the brook that flows into
Storrs Pond near the foot bridge. The waterthrushes seem to be
one-day-wonders. The Northern Waterthrush we reported earlier has
not been seen again. A bird that looked an awfully lot like a Pine
Siskin was seen at a feeder near Ray School.
Of note, the caretaker at Storrs Pond stopped us to ask about bird
sightings. He would like to hear reports about what birds are
observed in the area.
Around home (Camp Hill Road, Weathersfield), several Hermit Thrushes
and Wood Thrushes were seen, as well as our first Veery. Baltimore
Orioles returned earlier this week. Hummers are hitting the feeders
and a few Bobolinks are in our neighbor's fields. At the foot of our
driveway, our first Scarlet Tanager, a picture-perfect brilliant male.
